Fredun Shapur (born 1929) is a graphic artist whose inventiveness and refinement is an inspiration for all those interested in the development of 20th century design. Like Bruno Munari or Charles Eames, his wide-ranging work includes a particularly daring and original contribution to the world of children.

Between the 1960s and 1980s he designed toys for manufacturers such as Naef in Switzerland and Galt in Great Britain, and most particularly for Creative Playthings in America, for whom he created a remarkable corporate identity, defining their image through a logo that has now become iconic.

Fredun Shapur was a part-time lecturer for over 20 years at St Martin’s School of Art and London College of Communication (then LCP). He was also a fellow of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers. Shapur’s oeuvre is now acquired by the V and A museum of childhood.

This exhibition will show his graphic work through book illustration, record covers and packaging, and will also provide a unique opportunity to get hands on with his beautifully crafted toys. There will be a monograph and puzzles available for purchase, as well as posters.
