The Brick Lane Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of a very exciting new exhibition, Art in Mind - Infatuation explores the different loves which artists and viewers experience through the creation and appreciation of art which explores natural influences, from human forms and emotions to the physical world itself. We invite you to join us and be swept up on a whirlwind journey to rediscover your love of art; encompassing imagination with Jeremy Scott-Millers surreal characters, emotions and impressions with Kim Greig’s evocative illustrations, through to the love of the human body expressed in Alexandra Kay’s flowing female figures and intangible states of being captured in Robert Andler-Lipski’s explosive mixed media assemblages.

Featured artists:

Alexandra Kay was born in Denmark, and attended art school both in Copenhagen and London. She is currently studying fine art painting at Brighton University. Having lived in such diverse environments as Portugal and the Caribbean her experiences of contrasting cultures bind her work together into images exploring purity and nature in society. Alexandra’s art flows with an appreciation of the form and figure of the female body in tandem with a sense of feminine vulnerability. She does not aim to produce paintings about specific subjects; simply letting her work follow her emotions in the form of art. Alexandra believes strongly in allowing her passion, imagination and background to be expressed in my work. Alexandra Kay (Sandra), the inspiration behind natural skin care brand, Green People, feels passionately about her work making a difference in a number of ways. As such, Alexandra Kay is delighted to be donating 10% of her exhibition sales to Teens Unite, a worthy charity which supports teenage cancer patients.

Jeremy Scott-Miller from Norfolk studied at the Slade. His existential and surreal interpretation of the human and animal form is unique and his paintings speak for themselves. Brilliantly coloured and not without humour, closer study of his work reveals unexpected details of his extraordinary imagination.

Kim Greig from New Zealand and currently based in London is an art teacher, who gained inspiration from the overwhelming emotions of a new culture, swallowed up in a new large city, with a cocktail of history and adventure on the surrounding shores. Days of the Weather is a series of large illustrations of visual poetry that depict the emotions, values and experiences of her discoveries while living in the United Kingdom and parts of Europe. The illustrations of pen, gouache on paper are detailed, harmonious, clean, soft, and beautiful. Each artwork poses familiar local objects with a twist of emotion such as beauty, sorrow, frustration, joy, misunderstandings, excitement, fear, flux, and anger. Kim lives by "Life is an adventure, so lets seek the excitement!"

Liz Worley is an illustrator and artist originally from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, and currently based in Canterbury. She studied Illustration at The University For The Creative Arts in Maidstone, and since graduating she has exhibited throughout Kent. Until recently she was also the in-house illustrator for independent company The Medieval Scribe, specialising in illuminated calligraphy. Her work is inspired by the exploration of form and pattern, with influence stemming from the work of William Morris and Piet Mondrian, and how these artforms can be used to express, and create beauty from, the various subjects that fascinate her, such as mathematics, psychology, nature and science. She finds a particular point of interest in the notion that fractals, such as the Koch’s snowflake and Pythagoras tree, provide an insight into visualising and realising the infinite. Her initial drawings are created as freehand as possible, with very little reliance upon protractor or other such tools, preferring to exercise self-discipline through being as accurate by eye as possible.

Paul Wood from Essex, UK tells us that there is something about painting and what it means to him that is not easily describable. From an early age he marvelled at the skills and originality of artists such as Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo, Pollock, Dali and later with Kapoor, Hirst, Koons and others. All of these artists had or have influenced his work in many different ways. Paul has always been drawn to Abstract Expressive Art and the freedom it brings and the expressions it allows. For him it allows freedom, excitement, fulfillment and most of all enjoyment. Paul has established his own original Abstract style through experimentation and work with mediums and materials especially chosen to compliment the controlled and technical methods he adapted to paint on different surfaces. Each colour, shape, texture and position on the surface are all added with an overall plan to produce a balanced, exciting, bright complimented artwork that shows the entire process working together as one. His art changes when viewed from different places, angles or positions and many people have expressed their own versions of what they see in front of them. His art means different things to different people.
