Northcote Gallery is delighted to present an exhibition of works by Myles Oxenford. The exhibition is centred on the landscape of the British Isles, specifically Cornwall, Wales and Scotland.

Landscape has always been a starting point for Myles, a visual trigger for inspiration. This collection focuses on the land around us which is invariably uninhabited, sparse and wild. Myles sets out to invite the viewer to enter these places may it be a path, river or dyke. Rubbing back the surface the artist is not afraid to leave passages of virgin ground creating an airy, spacious result that is brought together through structured areas of painting.

Talking about the work Oxenford say,

“These are escapist paintings in many ways. They aren’t about the geography of the place but more about atmosphere and an emotional response. Playing with the compositions and adjusting the light, leaving bare ground, I hope to create something beyond a straightforward representation place.”
