Founded in Barcelona in 1999 by Bert van Zetten, Marcel and Jutta Huisman, Villa del Arte Galleries has become one of Catalonia’s leading contemporary art galleries. The work of over 30 Spanish, Dutch and international artists is represented between their emblematic gallery space in Barcelona´s gothic quarter, collaborations with leading galleries worldwide and numerous international art fairs in Europe, USA and Asia.

To continue this journey, and reconnect with the gallery’s Dutch background Villa del Arte Galleries is announcing the opening of a new gallery space in Amsterdam, with a solo exhibition of the well-known Catalan artist Montse Valdés.

Percepción will open with a Vernissage on Friday 22nd from 16.00 untill 21.00 hours. The exhibition will run from August 23rd to September 23rd at the new gallery space in the Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 38, in the heart of Amsterdam’s antique district.

The twenty oil paintings on display evoke a contemplative and peaceful spirituality, as Montse Valdés states: “I try to paint emotions, feelings, moods, soul, essence, the essential, capturing the interior vision by painting nudity as a symbol of sincerity and truth, free from any temporal or cultural context”.

Montse Valdés studied at the Academy of Paris, and in the workshops of Artur Aldomà Puig and Isidre Vilaseca in Barcelona. Over the past thirty years, her work has been featured in a variety of publications, European art galleries, international art fairs and forms part of important public and private collections such as the Museu d’Art Contemporani and the Museu Diocesá in Barcelona.
