Peter von Kant is delighted to exhibit new paintings by recent MFA graduate Jon Pilkington (b. 1990, Liverpool), Chelsea College of Art and Design (Distinction). Jon Pilkington lives and works in London.

Pilkington’s work explores abstraction through figuration, investigating the role of the motif and the relationship it holds to drawing in contemporary abstract painting. His seductive explorations of colour are informed by clarity and confidence through painterly application. These paintings offer propositions through simplification and rejection, where there becomes a focus on the reduction of motifs and references, suggesting a narrative by employing elements of primitivism in a bold, honest and playful way. Paintings teeter between the unresolved and the overworked. This body of work combines the urgency of drawing with a painterly surface.

A full exhibition text by George Vasey will be made available after 15 March 2015.
