Caldwell Snyder presents “Affirmation” an exhibition of recent paintings by Sausalito- based artist Nicholas WIlton. Nicholas Wilton creates paintings from a place of freedom, optimism and intuition, with dynamic compositions that reflect a liberating personal journey. “As things in the outside world have become more uneven, more unpredictable,” he says, “I have had to dig deeper within myself to find the balance, beauty and buoyancy in this current time."

In his words, “There is a newfound urgency, seriousness to be concise and bold in this new work ...I have renewed my commitment to trust the outer edges of my sensibilities and to let the rawness of this remain visible in this new work.” In this new body of work, Wilton embarks upon this journey by reaching beyond his oil paints to explore the materiality of oil pastels, wax sticks, and crayons. They offer him a more direct and immediate approach to his art making. In the end, Wilton says, they contribute to the internal realization that what we do can ultimately contribute to the possibility for change. For Wilton, “this work, more than anything, is a celebration of this fact.”

Nicholas Wilton’s paintings are highly sought after both in the United States and Europe. They are seen in yearly solo gallery exhibitions, international art fairs, and are included in numerous private and corporate collections. His paintings have also been used on the covers of the national bestsellers, The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz, as well as Brene Brown’s The Gift of Imperfection. Recently, the US Postal Service issued a stamp featuring Wilton’s art. His work is featured in the Stanford Hospital Collection in Palo Alto, California.
