We introduced the French abstract artist Othello Radou to a UK audience with a series of very successful exhibitions in 2008 and 2010. Now we are very pleased to announce that the family of the artist has decided to release for sale the very last collection of paintings that up until now have remained in their collection.

We believe that the unique vision, elegant balance of colours, and sheer dynamism of his paintings, large and small, will, when known to a larger international public, put the name of Othello Radou alongside his contemporaries with whom he exhibited such as Victor Vaserely, Sonia Delaunay, Jean Dewasne and Gino Severini. These are masterpieces that can stand comparison with the most influential and celebrated paintings from the second half of the Twentieth century.

Othello Radou was born in Monte Carlo in 1910, but studied art and settled in Paris. Although he was described as “quiet, solitary and preoccupied with his work”, his tenacity of purpose and unique vision led him over his long career of forty years to win much critical acclaim and awards. The French State purchased several paintings for the F.N.A.C (Fonds National d’Art Contemporain), also commissioning five murals for various scholastic establishments and universities. He exhibited regularly in Paris at various Salons and group exhibitions such as the ground-breaking Salon des Réalités Nouvelles. He had a highly critically acclaimed one man show in Paris in 1971.One critic wrote of this exhibition: “From a geometric abstract perspective, an elegant, beautiful and harmonious organisation of space, which does not adversely affect the rhythmic invention and the force of colour”.
