Joshua Borkovsky

The exhibition shows a group of new works, Photomorphosis photographs, from the "Mirrors, The Garden" (3) cycle.

The works of this cycle have evolved over the years and The Garden motif is central to them.

The fields of meaning of the reflection, the echo and the repetition are fundamental to the images that are embodied in them.

(This exhibition completes Borkovskys' comprehensive exhibition, "Veronese Green", held at the Israel Museum last year on which his works in the field of photography weren't included)

Since 1979 Borokovsky has shown 15 Solo exhibitions. Two of these were at the Israel Museum; "Veronese Green" in 2013, preceeded by "Mirrors, The Garden" (1987, curated by Meira Perry-Lehman).

He has participated in varied group and theme exhibitions, in Israel an abroad, including; The Israeli exhibit, 12th International Biennial of Young Artists, Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris (1982, curated by Mordechai Omer); "Color Territories", The Israeli Pavilion , 42nd Venice Biennial (1986, curated by Yonah Fischer); The Israeli Exhibit, 21st International Art BIennial, Sao Paolo (1991, curated by Ami Shteinitz); "Routes of Wandering: Nomadism, Journey and Transitions in Contemporary Israeli Art", Israel Museum, Jerusalem (1991, curated by Sarit Shapira); "Taswir - Pictorial Mapping of Islam ans Modernity", Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin (2009).

Among his awards are the Beatrice Kolliner Prize for a Young Artist, Israel Museum, Jerusalem (1980); The Minster of Education and Culture's Prize for Painting and Sculpture (1990); The Janet and George Jaffin Prize for Excellence in the Visual Arts, America-Israel Cultural Foundation (1998).

Since 1995 Borokovsly has been teaching at the Art Department, Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem, where he is a currently a senior faculty member. He lives and works in Jerusalem.
