Mr. Robot Season Two Preview
The Most Exciting TV Show Of 2015 Is Back
The USA Network has confirmed the air-date for Mr. Robot's season 2 premiere. Rami Malek and co. will return to our screens on Wednesday the 13th of July 2016. Mr. Robot is an original TV show tackling important social topics, the whole premise of the show is a commentary on modern problems - corporate corruption, income inequality, greed, etc. The cinematography and production quality are top notch and the show is also the most possibly realistic depiction of a hacker's lifestyle. If you haven't jumped in yet, you need to do yourself a favor and watch the 10-episode first season, which aired last Summer. (Seriously, don't read this until you've finished it, because spoilers follow!)
Judging by the trailer that USA Network has released, it seems like the Evil Corp hack was just the beginning for fsociety. Following last season's major hack, the show will now unpack the consequences of major breaches in privacy and data. Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail told in a recent interview the following about season 2' storyline. “Yes, the timeline is going to get a little bit clearer. Not 100 percent because what’s the fun in that, but a little bit clearer.” He continued: “The series is filling in the blanks of the past and the present and even the future of this character. You’re this close to the painting, you take a step back and then you see more of it. I think that’s how I’m approaching every season. I’m not interested in gotcha moments or trying to shock the audience or surprise the audience. It’s not my agenda to keep shocking you.” Esmail is planning to direct all ten episodes himself (alongside his writing and executive producing duties). He called the shots on three episodes of the first season, but Mr Esmail is now keen to firmly plant himself in the director’s chair for the entire season. For me, this is good news. Esmail clearly has a strong vision and the writing and the visuals complete each other .
New Additions to the cast
The second season of the show will also bring some new members to the already great cast; Craig Robinson of Pineapple Express, Hot Tub Time Machine and This Is The End has signed up for a recurring role in Mr. Robot season 2. He’ll play Ray, whom was described as “a neighborhood local who reaches out to Elliot (Rami Malek) in his time of need.” Other new additions to the cast include rapper Joey Bada$$ who’ll play Leon, “a new close friend of Elliot”, Grace Gummer as Dominique “Dom” DiPierro, a young FBI field agent who is investigating the hack and Chris Conroy as a young suitor in Joanna’s life.
The upcoming season will (hopefully) answer the cliffhanger questions left in season one – "Where is Tyrell Wellick? What happened during Elliot's blackout? And specially, who knocked on the door in the closing moments?" In the finale’s last regular scene, the show left us with a question; who was knocking on Elliot’s door? I think it may be the FBI. I am guessing that because Lenny (Elliot’s psychiatrist’s ex-boyfriend) mentioned that he had been talking to the police about Elliot, but the police didn’t have enough evidence to arrest him. So maybe, after all that happened, they are reaching to Elliot looking for leads or for some way to incriminate him. Also creator and showrunner Sam Esmail said ”Elliott committed a crime in the first season, and we're gonna see the ramifications of that in the second season, I think that drives a lot about what the second season's all about," I think that is enough for me to have such idea, right? hmm I don’t know. The main thing I learned from season one is to pay attention to things that don't make sense (think back to Elliot and Darlene's relationship before we knew that was his sister for example) and the FBI knocking on Elliot’s door it is way to obvious and makes way too much sense for this show.
To say that the season one of Mr. Robot left us with more questions than answers is an understatement. Esmail was vague about next season’s details but promised that things are only going to get darker, is that even possible? I can’t wait for season two!
