Cyclo-cross is a form of bicycle racing; the races usually take place during the autumn and in the winter time. It consists of a number of laps of a short course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills, and obstacles. As the path is challenging and constantly changes, it requires the rider to quickly dismount, carry the bike while navigating the obstruction and remount. The sport is extremely popular in the traditional road cycling countries such as Belgium, France, and the Netherlands.
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) World Championship Cyclo-cross 2012 will be held in Koksijide, Belgium, on the 28th and 29th of January, 2012.
