Following the success of their first one-day event in August 2010, the Reiki NZ, Inc. committee has decided that this conference that will be held in August 2012, will be even bigger and better, as it will last over a full weekend. The event will take place on August 11th through August 12th, 2012, at the Sorrento in the Park, One Tree Hill, Auckland.

There will be a wide variety of speakers on Saturday followed by a choice of workshops on Sunday; Saturday evening is reserved for social interaction and a buffet dinner for participants.

Reiki is a Japanese technique used for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and it is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through individuals and is what causes people to be alive. When this force is low, people are more likely to get sick or feel stressed, while when it is high, people are more capable of being happy and healthy.

A treatment feels like a great bright glow that flows through and around the person being treated. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit creating beneficial effects, such as relaxation and feelings of peace, security, and wellbeing.

While Reiki is not a religion, it is still very important to live and act in a way that supports harmony with other people. Reiki has no dogma, and there is nothing people must believe in order to learn about Reiki and to use it. In reality, because it is believed that the doctrine comes from God, many people find that using Reiki makes them feel closer and more in touch with the experience of their religion, rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.
