Orlanda Broom is currently self-represented and has exhibited regularly in London and internationally. Her paintings have been selected for curated shows and competitions including Threadneedle Prize, NOAC, BEEP and the RA Summer Exhibition.

The team at Jealous were introduced to Orlanda through their first ever silkscreen printing workshop at the print studio, in which she produced a beautiful limited edition print, which will be on display at Jealous Gallery alongside a selection of her original paintings.

Come and see these vibrant and wonderful floral pieces in the flesh.

‘My paintings are lush and colourful landscapes that exist as part of a fantastical, reimagined place and as an amalgamation of references to the history of landscape painting and my own experiences of travelling. I apply a hyper, rose-tinted view of the world and my vision is of a place and time untouched; it is wild and ripe almost to the point of rotten. The surface joyousness is tempered by an uneasy sense of abandonment. These paintings are themselves fetishized; the layered resin has an extreme high gloss finish, akin to stained glass.

I borrow from multi-cultural influences; the landscapes can be hard to geographically pin down. ‘The Lost Traces of Somewhere’ are taken from trips to places as varied as Nevada and Tobago (where there are many traces which quickly become overgrown if not used)… the exotic is always a pull but inspiration can be closer to home with trips to Kew Botanical Gardens or coming across the unexpected palms that grow in Scotland. I also take influences from an eclectic mix of artists who relate the experience of seeing and being in the landscape. Artists have historically beautified and edited the scene to fit their vision but they have also brought together a vision that feeds our understanding the world.’ - Orlanda Broom
