Mark Wolfe Contemporary Art is pleased to present a suite of new paintings in oil by Ryan Martin, in his third solo exhibition at the gallery.

A virtuoso portraitist, Ryan Martin has for the past 18 months been painting thirty-seven, face-only portraits of the same model, Julian Larach, all 12 x 9 inches, all oil on canvas. Despite the uniformity in size and model identity, each portrait offers its own self-contained world - unique in terms of its concept, composition and execution – presenting a compelling narrative of love, obsession, and shifting personas.

Having debuted a sub-set of these portraits at art fairs in Miami and New York this past season, we are now excited to present the largest assembly of them ever exhibited. Accompanying them will be a selection of Martin’s trademark larger high-color portraits, featuring various local and international film personages.

Ryan Martin lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he attended the California College of the Arts. He has exhibited widely across the United States, including two prior solo shows at Mark Wolfe Contemporary.
