As usual the Christmas Exhibition at The Leith Gallery shows a wide variety of artists, including Ricky Wiatrek whose slightly surreal paintings have a special charm.

"Spring" depicts four young women who appear to the sentinels guarding the first daffodils of Spring. We Scots are often mocked for our red hair. Apparently we have the highest proportion of red heads in the world. Perhaps this is what Sophie is alluding to in her "Scottish Summer". Michael Ewart takes us to London in his "City Centre" and the French painter, John Daeschler depicts the East Coast of Scotland. Deborah Phillips is more at home in Perthshire and Angus and her Heathery Ben captures the softer side of the Highlands of Scotland. From Australia Ian Mastin is showing a series of still lifes and L'Heure Exquise is a carefully executed example of his fine work. Finally a small gem for Colin Dunbar in Sun Flux. Colin is better known for his large portraits of the great and the good and his work is shown in the National Portrait Gallery. For relaxation he paints these small paintings.

In addition to paintings the gallery is highlighting the work of glass specialist Emma Butler-Cole Aitken. Emma is a prize winning artist who specialises in stain glass windows but for fun she produces some little birds.
