Art Miami New York, a new modern and contemporary art fair produced by the ownership team of Art Miami, will take place at Pier 94 from May 14 through May 17 during Frieze Week and Spring Auctions. Art Miami New York brings together 100 leading international galleries – both new to Art Miami and veteran exhibitors– with nearly 1,200 artists from over 50 countries.

The galleries in the inaugural Art Miami New York represent the best of what the 20th and 21st century has to offer; with the focus on emergent talent, as well as mid-career cutting–edge artists, anchored by a fine selection of blue-chip secondary market works by top name artists from the Modern and Post-War eras.

“The goal of Art Miami New York is to complement other art events happening in the city that week,” said Katelijne De Backer, director of Art Miami New York. “It is a fair unlike any other taking place in New York that week because of its breadth: it is the only fair in the market that has a strong mix of fresh secondary market works by top artists integrated alongside previously unseen primary works from emergent to mid-career cutting-edge talent from leading galleries from around the globe.”

Nearly 30 galleries will make their Art Miami debut at the fair’s New York edition. Accola Griefen (New York), known for its special focus on women of historical importance from the 1960s, will show works by Elizabeth Murray, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Renee Stout, and Sheba Sharro. Omer Tiroche Contemporary Art (London) will present a fresh selection of works by some of the most important postwar and contemporary artists, including Jean Michel Basquiat, Alexander Calder, John Chamberlain, Willem de Kooning, Yayoi Kusama, Sol Lewitt, Nam June Paik, Claes Oldenburg, Frank Stella, and Andy Warhol, among others. beta pictoris gallery / Maus Contemporary (Birmingham, AL), dedicated to supporting creativity with a focus on experimental and issue driven works, will feature American artists Bayeté Ross Smith, Taravat Talepassand, and Melissa Vandenberg. Other notable newcomers include Galerie de Bellefeuille (Montreal) with a group of established and emerging Canadian artists, Uruguayan gallery Piero Atchugarry (Pueblo Garzón) and Galerie LINZ (Paris) presenting a group exhibition exploring the theme of rhythm.

The fair visitors will likely recognize their many favorites from previous editions of Art Miami. Nearly 70 international galleries that exhibit in Miami will have presence at Art Miami New York. The notable presentations by the returning galleries include new works by Beverly Fishman featured at David Richard Gallery (Santa Fe) along with paintings by the historically important artists Julian Stanczak, Oli Sihvonen, and Thomas Downing; a curated selection of artworks, highlighting artists that were part of or associated with the Gutai and ZERO art movements from De Buck Gallery (New York); a selection of works by contemporary Finnish artists from Gallery Forsblom (Helsinki); rarely-seen works by Frank Stella and Lorraine Shemesh from Gerald Peters Gallery (New York); an overview of the gallery’s artists from Nancy Hoffmann Gallery (New York) with an emphasis on major new works, many made especially for Art Miami New York; and many others.

"The fact that so many galleries that participate in Art Miami will also be present in New York is a testament to a brand that is trusted and highly effective,” said Nicholas Korniloff, Partner and Executive Vice President of Art Miami LLC, “Galleries rely on the rich tradition, excellent organization, and quality of Art Miami, and that is what the fair will bring to New York, too."
