Blood, organs, muscles, tendons and bones – even chemically we’re alike. I always think about that. Once, an idea has come to my mind that I should tell my own story about mankind. Like my other stories, it came from some place in a dream. Like a little seed, I planted it without expecting how the colors of its flowers would be. Its fruits are in this exhibition. Bitter to some palates and exotic to others – depending on who try’s it. For me, all that remains is to sit on its shadow and remember all of its course, from the seed to the tree and, for last, reflect and wait for the next seed.

In OJardim Daniel Malva was based on his studies and researches of the photographic technique through poiesis. In this collection he starts from the point that we’re organisms in an immense garden where our personality is cultivated. The images assume, in their tittles, archetypes and feelings of our trajectory in this universe imagined by the artist. The precise focus, result of a lens built by Malva, highlights our relation death/time and the unremitting eagerness in discovering what the reasons to our existence are. The series has 25 images and it was presented in the Marquise of Santos manor / Museum of the City of São Paulo (Solar da Marquesa de Santos / Museu da Cidade de São Paulo) in the beginning of 2015.

Since 2004 the artist seeks new approaches for his production: building lenses, altering chemicals and changing the software of digital cameras. All this practices come from his curiosity on exploring how the objects and processes work. In 2009, Malva presented the series Natural History Museum (Museu de História Natural) for the first time in Mezanino Gallery (Galeria Mezanino).

The work was selected to be a part of the exhibition and book Generation 00 – The new Brazilian Photography (Geração 00 – A nova Fotografia Brasileira), curated by Eder Chiodetto. In 2014, Malva had two solo exhibitions, in London and Oslo, through the Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery, from London, which represents him in Europe.
