In his new exhibition, entitled Blaue Lagune (Blue Lagune), Otto Zitko deals with the impressions of a journey to Iceland that inspired him deeply.

This is no travelogue in paintings, the selection of pictures rather reflects the artist's personal approach to Iceland's nature mysticism. They bear testimony to the metaphorical and yet wholly subjective – and indeed sexually charged – confrontation with the force that ultimately has become a recurring theme.

Over the course of fifteen years, Zitko has held on to the works here presented, working on some of them again and again, gradually condensing the impressions by painterly means. The fascination for the subject continues, which is why the exhibition presents the first insight into a work group from an open cycle.
