The Intimate World of Louise Nevelson will be on view at Nohra Haime Gallery in Chelsea from October 18 - November 11, 2017. The show features thirteen works comprised of not only her signature monochromatic sculptures, but works on paper, plexiglass and mixed media compositions as well.

The exhibition highlights Nevelson's smaller works, giving an up-close and personal view of her world as an American Abstract Expressionist Sculptor. Viewers can navigate the space to study each piece and experience the intricate nature of her innovative assemblages.

Born in Kiev, Nevelson moved with her family to the United States in 1905 to Rockland, Maine. Marriage in 1920 brought her to New York City where she studied life drawing and painting with George Grosz at the Art Students League in New York City (1929-1930). She later studied with Hans Hofmann in Munich, and worked as an assistant to Diego Rivera. Recognized during her lifetime as one of America's most distinguished artists, Nevelson received honorary doctorates from Harvard, as well as from Columbia University, and was the recipient of numerous awards, including the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

A series of five postage stamps were issued by the United States Post Office in 2000 to commemorate her contribution to art history. Her works can be found in major museums and prominent private collections worldwide.
