The installation City Image: Philadelphia in Photographs, provides the opportunity to step into a view from the past, and test the viewer’s knowledge of Philadelphia’s varied neighborhoods. A gallery guide provides in-depth information on each image revealing details about the photographer, the neighborhood, and how that location has changed over time.

Over the span of this installation, visitors are encouraged to tell stories about themselves, their families, their neighbors, and the city. Through these vibrant and exciting stories we are able to create a sense of place and identity.

The installation, presented around our walkable map located in the Museum’s Main Gallery, aids the stories by serving as the perfect geographical reference point.
