The Kravets/Wehby Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Cardboard Lamb, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Justin Samson. The show will open on Thursday, June 20th and run through August 2nd, 2013.

In Cardboard Lamb Justin Samson presents a series of large paintings. Drawing from the psychological charge of the face, Samson depicts ancient Greco-Roman sculpted heads. These heads are broken, worn away, and severed. They are depictions of faces lacking in descriptive features such as skin tone, eye color and movement. Samson captures the cold white of the sculpted marble heads against the vibrancy of his electric backgrounds. A sexy blank stare from a severed head is emotionless floating in beautiful landscape. Juxtaposed to this is a collection of abstract paintings, which continue to reflect the art object’s spiritual presence; somewhere in between a prop and a character to our own reality. A realization of a fantasy.

Justin Samson currently lives and works in Philadelphia. This will be his second solo show at Kravets Wehby Gallery, his work has also been recently exhibited at Know More Games and has received acclaim in publications such as the New York Times.
