How well I remember as a six year old watching a man painting the sea and rocks on my first holiday in Cornwall - the salt in the air, the smell and sound of the surf, the stabs of sun and wind, the threat of the tide, the stretch of the land and sea, and above all the intensity and speed of light and weather, each moment so sharp and particular...and gone like a musical note.’ Michael Honnor, 2018

Acclaimed Devon artist Michael Honnor, creates a striking collection of new & unseen artworks for his upcoming exhibition, EBB AND FLOOD, which can be viewed at THACKERAY GALLERY Est.1968, Kensington, which celebrates its 50th year in 2018.

The landscape of Britain being a source of inspiration, Michael creates his work outside, also known as ‘plein air’, surrounded by wilderness, capturing the weather and light with undeniable honesty. Amid all the urgency and sensation of painting beside rivers and seas, the marks of the brush and crayon are a visible part of the process. Each painting is intensely attractive, capturing the movement and dramatic atmosphere that the land presents.
