Whether or not we appreciate it, winter is an integral part of what we are. It demands resilience and adaptation. It instils great happiness in some and provokes recriminations and anxiety in others. It is, nevertheless, images and mores linked to northern latitudes that fascinate outsiders. The mythic Québec winter is represented by vast white spaces, underground cities, log cabins and winter sports, which visitors are sure to find engaging.

White Mirage highlights the MNBAQ’s collections and assembles more than 70 works from different periods that vividly embody winter—old photographs, ceramics, drawings, prints, paintings, sculptures, textile and glass creations—in representations of northern latitudes or powerfully evocative works.
