Aeneas Bastian and the gallery team are pleased to announce the start of a first collaboration with Ulrich Erben. From 19 January to 16 March 2019, the Berlin gallery will be showing a selection of works created in recent years. This is the first extensive presentation of the artist in Berlin.

Ulrich Erben's paintings, which we are showing, have found their aesthetic reference under the spell of the destroyed temple landscape in Selinunt. We read them as distant metaphors of the anatomies of an ancient world. In their extreme reduction, the pictures seem archetypal, free signs, yet they are carried by a profoundly inner confession: the animism of a language of poetic assertions that rest within themselves.
