This exhibition features work from the MCA Collection that speaks to humanity’s politically and economically driven intervention in the environment. The exhibition’s centerpiece is the MCA’s recent acquisition, filmmaker John Akomfrah’s major video installation Vertigo Sea (2015): a spellbinding three-screen montage that brings together the poetics and traumas of the ocean. The exhibition reflects on the human constructs pervading even the most supposedly pristine places, exploring the tangles of culture and nature, human history and deep time, and exploitation and transcendence.

The exhibition is organized by Nina Wexelblatt, Curatorial Assistant. It is presented in the Sylvia Neil and Daniel Fischel Galleries on the museum's second floor.
