An exhibition in conjunction with the Sladmore Gallery of London, of work by the contemporary British sculptor, Sophie Dickens.

Sophie Dickens’ sculptures have earned important critical acclaim at exhibitions here and abroad and she has ardent fans of her work in the US as well as in England and France. Her inspiration comes from Michelangelo and ancient Greek traditions, with an emphasis on muscularity and circular forms. Her knowledge of anatomy and her art history background inform her work, along with her rapier wit.

She is able to weld metal rods like lyrical skeletal drawings and choreograph an amazingly fluid technique using concave and convex forms to evoke bone, muscle and sinew and make the complicated creative processes seem effortless. In her new sculpture, she has worked on sequences of powerful male athletes leaping, lunging, cart-wheeling - naked figures in "deference to the original Olympians" .

A recent commission from NBC for their new sports studios included “Touchdown” and other sports related pieces. She prefers not be too closely identified by her famous forebear , but perhaps her narrative strengths are informed by her great great great grandfather – Charles Dickens.
