Gehan de Silva Wijeyeratne is responsible for establishing some of the biggest stories of international significance in wildlife tourism. These include that Sri Lanka is the best for Blue Whale, that it is the best chance for super-pods of sperm whale on a commercial whale watch, that it has the biggest annually recurring concentration of wild elephants (The Elephant Gathering) and that it is one of the top locations for Leopard safaris.
He also established Kalpitiya as Sri Lanka's third whale watching hot spot. He explained and publicized why Sri Lanka is the best for Big Game Safaris outside Africa and why it has a strong claim to be the best all-round wildlife destination in the world.
Recently he has also explained why it is disproportionately rich for wildlife. He has written and photographed on birds, butterflies, dragonflies and primates and in the words of British wildlife celebrity Bill Oddie, no single individual has done so much to raise the profile of a wildlife destination.
He has published over 300 articles and 15 books. He lives in London and has a special interest in tropical wildlife and British wildlife.
