A.I.R. Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new works by Barbara Roux, which will be on view from May 30 – June 23, 2013.

In Growing Evidence, Barbara Roux continues her engagement with wild habitat niches in the northeast through an installation of sculpture, photographs and narrative text. An ecology-based artist and active conservationist, Roux utilizes her experiences working daily in wild areas to create an installation that is layered with meaning.

Themes of innocence, premonition, damage and sleep are presented in this exhibition through works that create a time, place, evidence for an event and emotional connection to the artist. The “site” is brought into the gallery space through landscape-based color photographs and sculptural elements from the forest, subtly altered to create new significance in the gallery space. Ms. Roux’s personal account of witnessing last year’s devastating storm is presented in her narrative text, “Startling Sandy”. A large, spiral bound artist’s book, Growing Evidence, accompanies this exhibition.

Barbara Roux has had her photographs featured as the cover of Orion Magazine, Fourth River Journal and Annals of Earth. She has had solo exhibitions at Hofstra University Museum, Lyman Allyn Art Museum, Islip Art Museum, Discovery Museum, A.I.R. Gallery, Real Art Ways and Queens College Art Center. Her work has been featured in Sculpture Magazine, Art New England, The New York Times, New York Magazine, Newsday, Volume Magazine and Arts Magazine.
