Lucía Mendoza Gallery presents the exhibition of the multidisciplinary artist Alicia Martín. retratodeartista opens on June 9th and it can be visited until July 27th. The exhibition, curated by art critic Francisco Carpio, is part of PHotoEspaña 2018, photography festival which celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year. Through her personal look, Alicia Martín proposes in this exhibition a dialogue between photography, video and installations. That way, an approach to this universe of elements-objects is proposed, exemplifying one of the most suggestive relationships between literature and plastic arts.

The book - "that amazing instrument", in the words of Borges - is undoubtedly one of the main references in the work of Alicia Martín. A book that becomes a metaphor and a polysemic icon, that reveals new plastic, formal and visual readings.

The artist Alicia Martín (Madrid, 1964) uses the book as the main element of her work. She develops her works in different disciplines such as installations, photographs, videos, drawings or sculptures; using this object as the central concept of her artistic proposals. Her projects have been highlighted by her large-format sculptures that are inserted into the architectural space adding new meanings.

She has made several exhibitions in galleries, art centers and museums such as the Museo Lázaro Galdiano (Madrid), Centro Cultural Tomás & Valiente (Madrid) or in the Ciudad de la Cultura in Santiago de Compostela (La Coruña). She has also participated in several national and international fairs such as ARCOmadrid, Art Basel Miami, Art Chicago, Artefiera Bologna, among others. Her work is part of museums, collections and foundations of national and international level: Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid), MUSAC (León), Caldic Collectie B.V. (Rotterdam), Biblioteca de Alejandría (Egypt), CAB (Burgos) or IVAM (Valencia).
