Aiza Azam

Aiza Azam is a faculty member in the Department of International Relations at Air University (AU), Islamabad. A mid-career professional in the field of academia, she has served in senior positions at a number of academic institutions in Islamabad, and also has experience in the corporate sector. From 2019 to 2021, she served as the Head of Business Development for the internationally reputed textile export entity of a group of companies in Karachi, establishing a framework for their operations in China; she also served as Advisor to the CEO of the group on global political developments and their impact on the group’s stock holdings in the oil and gas sectors. In 2018, she undertook a Fellowship at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, where she presented her research on developing state narratives.

From 2017 to 2019, she served as Vice President at the Center for Strategic and Contemporary Research, an Islamabad-based think tank. From 2011 to 2016 she served as the Director of Projects and Communication at the Pakistan-China Institute in Islamabad. She has also served as a visiting faculty member at the National Defence University, Islamabad (NDU). Ms. Azam holds a Bachelor degree in foreign languages (Chinese and Spanish) from the National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad, and a Masters in Philosophy in International Relations from the NDU.

She is passionate about travel and exploring foreign cultures, is an avid reader of history and fiction, and considers herself a foodie.
