Beril Celik, professionally known as Kamera Shai (also pronounced simply as “camera-shy” or /kamɛra/ /ʃaɪ/) is a recording artist and songwriter. She was born in Istanbul, Turkey. After completing her education at Robert College in Istanbul, she relocated to London to pursue studies in mechanical engineering at University College London and business finance at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences.

Beril has been playing the piano since the age of six. Over the years, she played many classical piano pieces. She holds distinction and merit certificates from the Royal Academy of Music in London. While studying in London, she enrolled in the Singing and Songwriting Program at Point Blank Music School where she had the opportunity to work on her vocal technique with vocal coach Phil Ramocon. Following her university graduation, she pursued the Social Impact Strategy Executive Program at the University of Pennsylvania. She then worked for management consulting firms in Istanbul, Turkey for a few years.

After her experience in the private sector, she decided to pivot her career into a more creative one. She moved to New York City, where she curated her own MFA program by participating in creative workshops and attending public lectures at institutions like Brooklyn Poets, New York University, and the New School.

She honed her craft of poetry by reading and analyzing many Sylvia Plath, Emily Dickinson and Ada Limon poems. She began weaving her poems into songs where she discovered she could combine her two passions; writing and music. After writing for several years, her friend from university encouraged her to pursue music more professionally and introduced her to several producers in Los Angeles, and London, where she developed a portfolio of original songs. In 2023, her manager shared her demos with several producers in the States and this connection resulted in a significant collaboration with three-time Grammy award-winner record producer Deezle.

She wrote, recorded and released her debut single, "Ruined Mona Lisa," in November 2023 which was produced and co-written by Deezle and sound engineer and rapper International GT. Songwriting serves as a way to transmute negative emotions into dream-state, stream-of-consciousness literary pieces. Composing her songs serves as a form of therapeutic self-expression. Her poetry, lyricism, and composition all feed off of each other. She is currently working on her upcoming music and poetry and often travels to Atlanta and Los Angeles, where she records her songs.
