The summer movie season was kicked off last month with the premiere of the impressive Avengers: Infinity War. But there are so much more movies coming in the next 3 months. So I decided to put together a list of the 10 movies that I will be definitely checking out this summer.

Deadpool 2

May 18

The Merc with a Mouth Is Back for More. The R-rated, fourth-wall-breaking, comic book comedy, Deadpool, was one of the biggest box office hits of 2016. And this sequel looks like will not disappoint.

Hopefully, this movie is going to be exactly what I’m expecting it to be. Super funny and with a lot of action scenes.Comedy sequels normally struggle to match the original. But I have high exceptions for this one. The trailer alone made me laugh out loud for over a minute.

The first movie had a much more limited budget. But apparently, the budget got bigger this time around. Big enough to add more mutants, which is going to be awesome. More characters can also share the load and keep it interesting. The first installment was almost entirely focused on Deadpool which could definitely get old in a sequel. So good thing he will have some help.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

May 25

Solo: A Star Wars Story, tells the origin story of the most beloved smuggler in the galaxy, Han Solo.

Honestly, I had a bad feeling about this movie. Controversies with the production and an origin story that no one asked for seemed like a very bad idea. But all the trailers look a whole lot better than I expected it to be. And now I'm actually pretty excited now for the film.

My prediction is that Chewie and Lando are going to steal this movie. Donald Glover is really talented and his version of Lando looks very smooth. And Chewie is always fun.

Ocean’s 8

June 8

Danny Ocean's estranged sister Debbie attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City's star-studded annual Met Gala.

This looks neither as bad as I feared nor as good as I expected. But I’m keeping hopes up. An all-female heist movie using a mix of top stars and newer additions could work really well. Besides, I’m such sucker for a heist movie, and also a big fan of the cast. So if the story is good, I'm all in.

Incredibles 2

June 15

Everyone's favorite family of superheroes is back in Incredibles 2. And I can't believe Pixar took this long to make this sequel. It has been 14 years since the original one came out. That is a long time to wait for a movie sequel.

The Incredibles is one of my favorites animated movies. But I’m a little bit skeptical about this one. Superhero movies have really high standards now. Very different from when the first Incredibles came out. And I’m not sure if this movie will be at the same level other movies of this genre have now. But on the other hand, I thought interesting the idea of flipping the dynamic between Mr. Incredible (at home taking care of the baby) and Elastigirl (out being a hero).

I can't deny that I’m very curious to check this out. Hopefully, it'll be worth the wait

Tag

June 15

For one month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running in a no-holds-barred game of tag they've been playing since the first grade--risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take each other down.

Besides the awful premise, this flick actually looks pretty fun. When I watched the trailer I went in thinking this would be incredibly stupid, but I actually want to go see it now. I really like the "successful adults use all their resources to act like children", as an idea for a movie. It is not for everyone, I know. But I’m totally in.

I also like this ensemble cast. Jon Hamm has been in a lot of comedy and he is very, very good at it. Hannibal Burress is so goddamn funny. He really nailed in Spiderman: Homecoming. Jake Johnson, Ed Helms, and Jeremy Renner are all looking very funny in the trailer as well.

This could be the surprise movie of this summer. The stakes are low and it can end up being as funny as Game Night was. Which was a pleasant surprise for me. Anyway, I will find out in June.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

June 22

I have very low expectations for this one. The previous movie was so bad. The writing was absolutely terrible. It is hard to believe it made so much money at the box office.

Having said that, I’m a bit curious to see what kind of direction they take this in. Would be interesting to see a future film with a premise like, Planet of the Apes. Where dinosaurs have completely retaken the earth and humans are now on the verge of extinction.

But they will probably take the easy route and make another boring and predictable movie. I think that this franchise is never going to be like Jurassic Park was back in the 90s. But I will give it a chance anyway.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado

June 29

Sicario: Day of the Soldado is the sequel to the 2015 film Sicario. The plot follows the drug war at the U.S.-Mexico border.

I’m very excited for this! I loved Sicario, and I think this sequel won’t disappoint. Unfortunately, Denis Villeneuve could not return to direct this installment due to scheduling conflicts. But the movie was once again written by Taylor Sheridan.

I’m a big Sheridan fan. I loved what he did with Wind River and Hell or High Water, both turned out to be fantastic movies. And that is why I think Soldado will be great too.

Also, 2018 really is the year of the Josh Brolin. Infinity War, Deadpool, and this movie. Dude is going to own the summer movie season.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

July 6

In the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Superhero and a father.

The first Ant-Man was a surprisingly fun movie. I never thought I’d like a movie with such a silly premise. But I loved it. Marvel movies are about two things primarily - awesome superhero action and good characters. And the first Ant-man movie had both.

For this one, I'm expecting even more fun with the shrink and grow shenanigans and some adventures in the quantum realm. The trailer I watched, let me grinning from ear to ear. The action looks amazing and the humor on point. Wasp is gonna steal the movie, and I can't wait to see it

Mission Impossible – Fallout

July 27

I love how they are able to keep the Mission Impossible movies so fresh despite being the 6th entry in the franchise. Usually, films get worse with a bunch of sequels. But MI movies rarely disappoint.

So many great moments in the trailer I saw. The action and fights look intense. It looks like it has some bits of classic spy movies, and it sounds like the plot is going to make sense. Also, I'm glad to see Cavill playing an anti-hero. And was great to finally see the famous mustache that killed the Justice League movie.

I also think that it's really cool that Rebecca Ferguson is back. I Loved her in Rogue Nation, she owned that movie. A smart woman who also kicks ass? Awesome! I think that everybody that saw her in Rogue Nation left with a crush on her.

Looking forward to this flick. Say what you want about Tom cruise’s crazy beliefs, but he is so good at action movies.

The Meg

August 10

A deep-sea submersible--part of an international undersea observation program--has been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct.

This is like Jurassic World but instead of an oversized Mosasaur, it is an oversized Megalodon. The trailer far exceeded my expectations. it looks far better than I had imagined! It struck the right balance of silly humor with over-the-top thrills.

I have this weird fascination with shark movies and this one looks decent. It has a 150 million dollars budget. So the visual effects will probably look pretty good. I just hope it has a good story too. I also hope this is the flick that helps Rainn Wilson to get a little more Hollywood work. Dude's criminally underrated

This is the sort of movie you bring a huge bucket of popcorn to and just have fun. I'm super sold on it.
