Title
MOVE Bombing Philadelphia
Year
2021
On May 13, 1985, after years of clashes and tensions between the police and MOVE, a communal, anti-government group, the police dropped a bomb from a helicopter onto the group’s rowhouse in a crowded, mostly Black neighborhood in West Philadelphia. Further investigations show the pelvic and femur bones of two of the adolescents killed in the bombing were being used by the Anthropology Department at a college to teach evolution. This discovery sparked uproar in the African American community of Philadelphia. The Health Commissioner and college admin resigned due to this disrespect.
