Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) has come under fire for allegedly selling baby parts for profit. Members of the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) disguised themselves as representatives of a fetal procurement company called Biomax Procurement Services and secretly recorded what is presented as a transaction of fetal parts.

Planned Parenthood vehemently denies any wrongdoing and has said the recording is heavily edited and without merit. The health clinic has fiercely denied accusations in strong words.
“Recently, an organization that opposes safe and legal abortion used secretly recorded, heavily edited videos to make outrageous claims about programs that help women donate fetal tissue for medical research.” Said by PPFA President Cecile Richards.

PPFA Senior Council for Law and Policy, Roger K. Evans has even accused CMP of racially motivated intentions in a letter written to House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton.
“We also believe that in at least one interaction at a Planned Parenthood facility, the Biomax representative asked questions about the racial characteristics of tissue donated to researchers studying sickle cell anemia, apparently seeking to create a misleading impression.”

Although racially motivated questions may have less to do with misleading impressions and more to do with the very origin of Planned Parenthood the PPFA Founder Margaret Sanger was an open racist and eugenist. The organization has admitted Sanger’s controversial eugenics views but doesn’t address the racial ones. In a letter written to Dr. Clarence Gamble in 1939 Sanger scribes some rather vivid remarks.
“We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.”

Some have wondered whether or not the reason 79% of Planned Parenthood locations are stationed in lower income neighborhoods is by design, or pure coincidence. Protecting Black Lives believes it to be of design, accounting for the number one killer of African Americans in the United States.

The most recent edited video attempting to discredit the health clinic starts off with the question, “What would you expect for intact tissue? What sort of compensation?” President of Planned Parenthood Medical Director’s Council Dr. Mary Gatter responded by saying, “Well why don’t you start by telling me what you’re used to paying.”

From there on out the dialogue continues in what could be interpreted as a rather cavalier negotiation. At one point Dr. Gatter jokingly laments being asked a preferred price for fetal tissue by saying, “Well you know in negotiations the person throwing out a figure first is at a loss right?”

While Planned Parenthood has sternly denied profiting from fetal tissue and organ donations they have not specifically addressed some of Dr. Gatter’s more lucrative remarks. “I don’t want to lowball” and “The money is not the important thing for me. But it has to be big enough that it makes it worthwhile to me.”

Instead PPFA has repeatedly said the video is heavily edited inferring that the unedited footage demonstrates the organization’s sound ethic. Politicians on the other hand have taken the opportunity to use the issue to further their political agenda. Republican Senator John Thune of South Dakota has said lawmakers will “offer amendments to whatever vehicles are coming across the Senate floor to deal with that: Defund it or deal with it in some other fashion.”

Since the second round of incriminating footage has gone public investigations are now underway. Republicans have requested that Planned Parenthood be investigated for profiting from fetal tissue transactions while Democrats have requested CMP be investigated for having broken any laws during it’s undercover work.
“These politically motivated videos raise questions but nothing I’ve seen indicates Planned Parenthood violated Federal law.” said Democratic leader Harry Reid, adding “All organizations need to be abiding by the law. If they don’t, they should be looked into. And that’s what is happening right now.”
