Photographers Chris Burkard and Paul Nicklen explore the vanishing ecosystems in Iceland and the Arctic with a shared mission of public education and conservation.

Internationally acclaimed photographers Chris Burkard and Paul Nicklen are opening a new gallery exhibit on July 15, 2017, focused on disappearing rivers and floodplains in Iceland as well as rare Arctic ecosystems. With more than 30 years of experience and roughly 6 million Instagram followers between them, Burkard and Nicklen hope the exhibit will encourage a global discussion on how best to protect some of the planet’s rarest and most threatened ecosystems.

The collaboration unites fine art with a mission of environmental conservation to highlight the beauty of these isolated landscapes as well as the challenges they face due to climate change and industrial development. “Vanishing Worlds: An Exploration of Fine Art and Environmental Conservation,” will feature a presentation and Q&A with both photographers at 5:00 p.m. ET at the grand opening on July 15. This event is free and open to the public.

The exhibit will be featured at the Paul Nicklen Gallery at 347 West Broadway in New York City through mid-September. A significant portion of the proceeds will benefit Sea Legacy, a marine conservation nonprofit that utilizes visual storytelling as a way to communicate scientific oceanic research.
