For a few days each summer between 1934 and 1939, then again from 1947 to 1954, Bern became a hub for international motor racing. The world’s top race drivers came to compete for the Swiss Grand Prix. A Swiss motorcycle Grand Prix encompassing a range of different classes was also held each year.

From 23 August 2018 to 22 April 2019, the Bernisches Historisches Museum will be holding a major exhibition on the historic motorsport event that took place on the legendary Bremgartenwald circuit and that attracted well over 100,000 visitors from near and far to Bern.

The exhibition presents not only the allure of the race, the vehicles and their drivers – it also addresses aspects of the race’s economic and social history, as well as the development of motoring technology.
